Live On Stage Comments

“My wife loves Neil Diamond and we have not been able to get to one of his shows.  So, when I saw you were coming to Tyler, I brought her for her 60th birthday.  This was the first time we have seen your show (Nearly Neil & The Solitary Band) and she was thrilled!  Neil Diamond’s music speaks for itself and I appreciate the way you represent him on stage…Very Professional!”

Daniel Rodriguez was a home run.  His program interspersed with his ‘banter’ to fill in the needed information about his dream to sing, along with his wife and twin sister, the ‘Songbirds,’ made for a most memorable concert.  His singing voice, his gentlemanly demeanor, his love of family, owing his talent to God and his strong faith, having generated so many wonderful and positive comments…and the comments are still buzzing around the suburban area here.  The word is out.”

Mac Frampton’s rapport with our audience was exceptional and he is a true professional/perfectionist whose performance was a pleasure to experience.  Mac so enjoyed our audience, our venue, and piano, that he performed an additional 20 minutes – and stated to me personally at the conclusion, that he gave “all he had” which was obvious to all.  I was extremely pleased this was our ‘opening act’ for our new season.”

“The Sigmund Romberg Orchestra performance was an unqualified success in filling in for the Moscow Boys Choir for our Concert Series last Thursday evening. The musicians, singers, and conductors were simply terrific.

As a school district fine arts director, I see a golden opportunity for a group like the Romberg Orchestra to add a student outreach (Encore) concert a la "Peter and the Wolf" or "Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra" and work through Live On Stage to bring cultural enhancement and educational matinee concerts to students on the same day as evening concerts for the community.

I can assure you that a light classical evening concert for communities like our's would be very well received. Other programs ... like music of the Oscars, Broadway theme, etc. would also be welcome from an ensemble like this.

In Terrell, the Encore programs drive programming decisions. In most cases, we insist on having both components.

Even though special arrangements would be needed for an ensemble the size and instrumentation of the Romberg Orchestra, I believe the interest in such a program would be significant, especially here in the southern US where we do not have many opportunities for orchestral performances for students.”

Thanks for your consideration, Dana Skelton

I took the liberty of greeting and thanking Mr. Cabassi, as he collected his things in the music room just off the auditorium following last night's concert.  Mr. Cabassi is a world-class concert pianist, of course, but I wanted to express to him that aside from his amazing credentials as a concert musician he is surely possessed of a big, big, heart.  Mr. Cabassi offered us a performance worthy of the Vienna State Opera or the New York Metropolitan Opera House in our High school's auditorium - a humble venue visibly and aurally in need of its imminent 2 year renovation.  Mr. Cabassi played forcefully - beyond the poor acoustics of the old stage - filling the large, old auditorium with the musical genius of Schubert.  In a post-intermission program switch, spontaneous, and perhaps in gracious acknowledgement of the enthusiastic applause of the largely senior audience in attendance, Mr. Cabassi gave us Franz Schumann, Novellette op.21 n.8, and Carnaval op. 9.  Mr. Cabassi's captivating performance was augmented by equally captivating Italian-accented English annecdotes and hugely foreshortened (we were assured) elucidations of the art and music of the evening's composers.  Were it not for our many senior knees and backs, he would have been honored with more of the standing ovations his performance earned him, I assured Mr. Cabassi.”

“Just wanted to let you know how much our association enjoyed the last two concerts.  Scheduling was a little tight - less than two weeks between them - but both audiences were full and receptive!  Franc D’Ambrosio was incredible!!!  What a wonderful performance by an absolutely awesome person!  His audience rapport is terrific!  Michael Grossman, Franc's talented accompanist was exceptional.  Franc is always so easy to work with and seems like an old friend to me and our association!!!”

“This past Monday we had the pleasure of hearing The Celtic Tenors!!! Once again, incredible talents, terrific audience rapport and such a varied program!  The talents of these three men plus their lovely soprano, Donna Malone and Danny Sheridan on piano gave our association yet another wonderful LIVE ON STAGE experience!”

Edgar Cruz's performances in Silver City were smash hits. He brings to the stage an intimacy and a freshness, giving audiences an informal invitation to his world. "Come as you are," he announces when the light first hits him, "But come." Then, he unpacks all that talent, riffs and licks through four centuries of music, from "Greensleeves" to "Hotel California." He squeezes an orchestra and a chorus out of a single guitar. What a remarkable entertainer and artist.”

NOVEMBER 10, 2007

“I had the opportunity to see 2 concerts. Edgar Cruz in an afternoon concert in New Mexico and Misty River in an evening concert in  Texas .

Earlier on Saturday I had a call from Wayne Roberts, the President in New Mexico , saying he wanted me to inform LOS that Edgar Cruz performed an outstanding concert for the concert association the night before.  Edgar had a great rapport with the audience and Edgar has an incredible touch with the guitar and it sounds like more than a solo guitarist. Another reason he was so endearing to the audience is that he played familiar pieces of music. Near the end of the show he asked the audience to call out songs that he hadn't played and he would play them. And indeed he did.  Edgar was easy to work with and so appreciative of the opportunity to perform.   I agree with everything Wayne said and you have seen the great comments from New Mexico .”

“I moved on to Texas and got there in time for the 7:30 show time.  The ladies in Misty River were very pleased to be in Texas for the very first time.  There was an audience of over a 1000 people and they enjoyed the excellent harmony provided by Misty River and their delightful sense of humor.  Each lady has a fine voice and supported by various instruments that each play.  Misty River performs a wide variety of Americana music.  In recognition of Veteran's Day they sang America the Beautiful which was much appreciated.  At the begriming of the concert the individual announcing for Texas asked all Veterans to stand.

The man who has been head of the IATSE ( Union for Theatrical and Stage employees) for many years said to me these ladies have great voices. This was quite a compliment coming from him as he has seen many stars in Texas over the years.

If you haven't had a chance to see either one of these concerts I recommend that you do.

“I am writing you today to provide feedback on one of your featured artists - Davide Cabassi. Here, in our small in Michigan , we are no strangers to concert pianists. In the past we have hosted the likes of Christiana Pegoraro (in fact, we engaged her exquisite performance, TWICE!) and Alpin Hong (you may remember I wrote you a lengthy and glowing commentary about him, last year), among others. I was sure that we could not 'top' their performances. Well, I WAS WRONG!  Tuesday night was an evening that our Community Concert patrons will NEVER forget!”

“With his humble and humorous personality, Mr. Cabassi infused the audience with an unexpected and tender warmth, as he introduced his first selection. Though it may seem trite to say, he charmed the pants off of his audience! He then sat down to his instrument and gave stunning and unimagined new life to our 9ft. Steinway grand! From the first moments of his performance, the audience was spellbound - and the evening spiraled higher and higher from there.”

“I could fill pages with accolades and remarks that were given, but I will try to limit them to a poignant few:

"His fingers were a blur upon the keys. I held my breath with disbelief!"

"I never thought that, in my lifetime, I would witness a live performance of Mussorgsky's 'Pictures At An Exhibition'. This has been a perfect dream come true!"

“And my own impression? I was shocked and yet helpless to discover tears - rapturous tears (blush!), created by the intensity, artistry and passion of this masterful, young musician. His 'gift' defies description. To witness it is to become bedazzled and mesmerized. For me, it will be a lifelong joy to be cherished!”

“Many thanks Matt, to you and your staff, for making such amazing talent available to our rural worlds. Ruth Gordon highly recommended Mr. Cabassi and we are indebted to her astute judgment. Davide Cabassi reigns PREMIER in my experience with your offerings. His brilliance in the world of music is simply - a breathtaking experience!”

Our concert with Revolution  was really wonderful.  We had the best crowd we’ve had in several years – I’d say more that 300 people (for us that is great) , the guys were as nice as they could be, and everyone had a great time.  We had people standing up waving their arms, clapping, and singing along.  I think we sold enough single tickets to pay for the backline stuff we had to rent.  So, it did go very well and I would highly recommend them.”

Our Oregon Community Concert was treated to something very special on October 23rd - the Karkowska Sisters Duo. We're fortunate to see some marvelous talent come to our Arts Center , but few can match the technical mastery and great personal warmth that these ladies so generously shared.”

“Perhaps one wouldn't expect an all-classical program to have much draw in a small town, but not so, the sisters played to a packed house. We're largely a senior membership, so a lot of us aren't so spry any more, but when these ladies finished, we all jumped to our feet like ten-year-olds with shouts of 'Bravo!' and 'Encore!'”

“My mother, Angelica Batchelor, happens to be a senior member on our Concert Board and thus has considerable say in setting up the artist roster each year. If her great delight is any sign, you can rest assured that we'll be seeing the Karkowska Sisters once again!”

“Well, it's going to be very hard to top this show, Matt.  I got a chance to see On Broadway again in PA and absolutely LOVED it.  My favorite sections (or my MOST favorite) were Chicago/Jerome Robbins and the Phantom portion, though grown-up Annie was right up there.  Ray said he expected her to twirl that dog around like a lasso.  So funny!

There was a glitch with one of the women's mikes but that got sorted out.  It was an amazing feat to get that show up and running in the length of time they had, but all was ready and curtain up right on time.

The entire audience loved it, I think I can assuredly say.  I heard one little girl convince her grandmother) to let her stay for the whole show though she was supposed to leave at intermission.  She was so delighted by it all.  I overheard one woman say, "I'm going to pull out all my old show records"

I know you can't keep this cast together but they are super and such good advertisements for Live On Stage.

I actually think this show is good enough to play.....well......on Broadway!

“What a wonderful concert!! The range of music that was covered by Piannafiddle was awesome: boogie, jazz, classical, rock, bluegrass, spiritual, country, and folk. All the different genres were covered! (Except Britney - thank goodness!! - oh wait, that's not a genre...)

It's hard to decide who kept me riveted the most: Trying to watch Lyn's hands on the Grand or Adam's passion on the violin. You are a remarkable pair. Can't wait to see you again!!”

“Just wanted you to know the Celtic Tenors were a smashing success!!!!!  What a fantastic way to start our 07-08 series.  They had not sung "Danny Boy" during their regular program but as a response to the standing o they were receiving they sang it.  People were thrilled.

One of the tenors was most complimentary regarding the auditorium in sound, piano, equipment, and working with Al Paxson.......they mentioned his name at the end.  So many times that is all it takes is a thank you for people to keep doing what they do so well.

We had 1000+ in attendance.  We love the tear off tickets and people liked them too.  I will have an accurate account of our membership but not of the reciprocity attendees.

Our thanks to Live On Stage for taking the plunge and helping all of us bring such quality artists to smaller venues.

"On behalf of our Community Concert Subscription ticket holders and our Board, I would like to thank you for your performance of On Broadway! on Friday, September 28th.  The performance was very professional and energetic. The talented crew put on a show enjoyed by all who attended! I even had one man in his fifties approach me to say it was the best show he had ever seen in his entire life. He added that he was inspired to sign up for dance lessons.

The audience appreciated your graciousness in spending time in the lobby signing programs and talking to the patrons. It was particularly nice to see many more young people than we usually have. It was a pleasure to meet you and enjoy your talents.”

I want to tell you how much the audience liked Franc D’Ambrsio’s program.

We have never liked to book an attraction so early in the season, especially because there is so many activ
ities going on here at this time.  But we did it!  It was a huge success and we sold many series subscriptions instead of just the ticket for that one show.  Box office price is $25.00 and the series is $60.00.  With the great schedule that we have this year it made is very easy to sell up when they called.

The newspaper did a great job of publicity for us as well as the ads that we place in the paper and we now know that is the key!  We also have a Board that is willing to go the extra mile which makes it fun.  It also helps when some of the others come to the Conference and see how it works  And a big thanks for choosing such a great variety of artists for us to choose from.”

“The Presidio Brass concert was a great success. We had about 500 people in the audience and they loved the concert. We got nothing but positive feedback. Everyone was astounded at the turnout too. We have gotten our membership up to 478 individual adults as compared to 382 last year. That increase was obviously noticeable in the turnout for the concert. I had also gotten a bulk non-profit mailing permit earlier in the year, and we used that to remind people on our mailing list of the concert. That, radio and TV appearances, close work with the Chamber of Commerce, and our new Web site probably all helped to make it a success.

The educational outreach was also very successful. We had about 600 kids, from kindergarten to 4th grade. I think the Presidio Brass guys were a bit stunned at that turnout and at the youth of the audience. But they handled the kids beautifully, and I think they really enjoyed themselves. During the question and answer session practically all the kids had their hands in the air, and the ones called upon asked excellent questions or just told the guys how great the concert was.

The after-concert reception also came off beautifully, and the Presidio Brass fellows seemed grateful for the nice treatment they got.

We look forward to the Edgar Cruz concert on 11/11. We are hoping that it will be equally successful.

Just a quick note to let you know what a smashing season opening night ******* Community Concert Association enjoyed with the Limeliters last night!  What an incredible show they put on!!!  And they were just as great off stage as on!  Our house was at about 90% and I think everyone had a super time!

Thanks a million for all that you do to make us look good!!! "

What a FINE show Revolution did for us last night! Now I just have to say this:  As with many if not most CC associations, we have a largely grey haired audience ... and we brought on to our program, "Revolution," in the hopes of gathering in some younger ones, but also knowing that baby boomer parents or grandparents SHOULD relate to them too.  And they did!

See Article, she said it better than I can: http://www.southidahopress.com/articles/2007/10/03/news/local/9985revolution.txt And what's more, I asked Jim Neil if he would mind turning down the volume just a bit and he said "we do it all the time, no problem."  And he did and I think we had a reasonable balance (of sound), pleasing "most of the people most of the time."

It really was a great concert.  Our King Fine Arts Director commented on how easy and pleasant they guys were to work with.  They were appreciative of our "hospitality" efforts ... they mingled with the crowds out front who wanted to buy their disc & poster, and just made a lot of friends, seems to me.  They are very talented men, vocally and instrumentally, and relate well to the audience from the stage.  They definitely brought back the "feel" of the old Beatles and stirred up a lot of good memories.   Folks gave them a standing ovation and came out smiling and humming old tunes!

“WOW! My fiancé and I looked at each other at the intermission of On Broadway and both, at the same time, just said "WOW". The members, the minimal set, the musician’s right there, were PERFECT for the setting. The talent level was excellent, and the skill of the performers was top notch. It was wonderful to be able to enjoy such a medley of musicals that I would in no way otherwise be exposed to, in Michigan . Thank you for coming here! Thank you for bringing such quality - and plainly, it was FUN entertainment - to a small venue such as ours. I'd pay to see this group again, and travel to a larger city to do it! Bravo! Well done! You provided a great introduction for a wonderful weekend for my fiancé and me!”

“EVERYTHING about it was fantastic! I loved the 'Phantom of the Opera' segment. Great compliments to the performers - their talent, presentations, and personalities - everything. We sold $1,000 worth of tickets at the door and only had 7 empty seats.

What a show!!!!  I can't stop grinning. Franc D’Ambrosio was absolutely fabulous!!  And we would certainly have him back in a heart beat.  Heard so very many positive comments.  The only negative one was that his CDs sold out before intermission ended.  I went back stage at intermission and got 8 more and sold them walking up the aisle.

What a wonderful performer: Franc D’Ambrosio’s technique was impeccable, his interpretations were captivating; and his personality and humor were just right for our concert series! Obviously, the Phantom songs were a huge highlight, but the entire concert was a stupendous showcase of Broadway! Franc's accompanist, Maestro Grossman, was an invaluable asset to this show. Not all accompanists are this accomplished - they were more like a duo! And I haven't even mentioned their friendly, collaborative, and easy manner.

The Mansfield University Students vocal students who participated in the morning Master Class were suitably impressed as well. There was a lot of excitement in the auditorium!

We had a great kick-off for the 2007-2008 season with ON BROADWAY. We had just about a full house and the wonderful comments we received about the artists and their performances are still coming in. It was another outstanding Matt Davenport production.

For the 2008-2009 year we hope to be able to bring the AMERICAN JUKEBOX for our members. It is one of our picks and we hope we can work out an acceptable date.

Again, Matt, thank you and my wish for you and LOS is nothing but continued success in the years ahead .. you deserve it.

Just a note to tell you we had an absolutely delightful afternoon and evening with The Limelighters.  They really put out great effort at their concert and the audience loved them.  We also kicked off our first Dining with the Stars event for after the concert.  We drew names before the start of the second half of the show of the lucky people who would get to sit with the "stars". We had 73 people in attendance at our first event.  The Limelighters gave away cd's and an autographed picture to the winners of a drawing.  They also did a question and answer thing with the diners.  All in all, we couldn't have had a better group of performers for this event.  It was an absolutely successful way to kick-off our season.  Our season ticket sales are up over last year.  People came from a city (2 hours drive time) for this concert, came to dinner, sat with the Limelighters and spent two nights in our community!.  We had people from a distance away change their single tickets to season tickets at this performance.  We're getting great press and we're really on a high!

“Approximately 400 who made it in the rain to see The Melody Boys had a wonderful time.  The Melody Boys are nothing short of outstanding as is borne out by comments of "this is the best concert we have ever had" and "It is about time that we got a gospel group in the line-up".  Then add two standing ovations to the score and you have it.

From the high tenor of Scott Baker to the very deep bass of Gerald Williams including the harmony and solos of Caleb Matheny and Terry Robertson, every detail was perfect.  We had visitors from way outside the normal 30 to 50 mile radius and a fair representation from our reciprocal partners.  Our phones have been ringing off the walls from gospel music lovers who wanted tickets.  I believe that this one concert put us over the top in raising out 2007-2008 budget.  Gayla Fooks, their booking & promotion person, drove in from Irving for the concert.

The musical selections had a wide variation from "Give the World a Smile" and " Beulah Land " to a "Joy to the World" medley from their new CD & "We're Still One Nation Under God".

Administratively everything was perfect.  Phone and e-mail contacts were made on time.  I met the quartet at the venue at 3:00 just as we had planned.  After sound checks were finished I took Gerald and his wife Martha for a tour of the new Rangerette Residence which is next door to the auditorium.

It is my strong recommendation and earnest plea that you include The Melody Boys Quartet in the 2009-2010 catalog.  I believe that my board will be ready to enter The Melody Boys in our schedule for the odd years.  As you know we have The Vocal Majority in the even years.

In addition to being very professional musicians these guys are great at meeting and interacting with the audience.  Thank you Lou for getting this wonderful concert for us.

Once again, Matt Davenport has a hit on his hands. What a wonderful show...great performers who could sing and dance as well as any "On Broadway". Great musicians in the band also...wonderful costumes and staging...very high energy. The best numbers from each show were showcased and the essence of each was beautifully portrayed, expecially Phantom and Les Miz. Congratulations on a great production.

The pace of the show and and choreography were outstanding. Please keep producing more shows. We have already booked "American Jukebox" for next season and will want to have more in the future. I took advantage of it and attended the Celtic Tenors concert --.  They had a wonderful concert -- all kinds of genres of music, well scripted and choreographed, and the soprano was outstanding!  The audience was in their hands from the start and stayed with them throughout.  After the intermission, the hall was still as full as before, including the middle school children who passed out the programs.  The addition of background music added a nice dimension to the program.

Performance  at Tupelo , Mississippi of ON BROADWAY was fantastic.  One of the best of the concert series over the last several years.    Talent of the performers was outstanding.  Would like a repeat performance!!!!!

Appreciate the tribute to 9/11 as the majority of the gentlemen in the audience were from the World War II conflict----

Thanks for a great production-----

The Celtic Tenors were fantastic last evening.  They were so personable.  The audience loved them.  Immediately after the last number everyone rose to their feet!  We had a lot of college students that attended, and they were so enthused.  They stuck around after the concert to talk with the tenors.  The people who were still left in the lobby got a special performance of "Danny Boy" when someone mentioned that they were sorry that it was not included in the program.  We had several people who attended from Pennsylvania associations and other Ohio associations.  It was a great evening!

We attended the 4SCORE concert on Sept. 6 as part of the Northwest Indiana Concert Association series.  It was one of the best performances we have ever seen!  Their voices blended so well and the choreography and staging was unique and enhanced their selections.   We appreciated the familiar selections in their Great American Songbook and enjoyed the unique arrangements.  The jazz trio was outstanding, also.  We are so glad that they were available and hope they will be able to return another year.

Revolution was our kick off concert this evening (9/6/07)  They were absolutely awesome.  What a show!!!  We sold MANY memberships and single tickets this evening.  We had the best crowd number wise that we have had in years, probably 900-1000 people...who by the way, were on their feet dancing during part of the concert...even our "golden agers."  We heard so many positive comments from people as they exited the concert...after standing and clapping endlessly for an encore...which of course the fellas were happy to give.  It was one of the most outstanding concerts we have had.  Thought you would like to know.  This group is definitely a winner.  It brought many younger people in tonight, some purchasing memberships.  I can't say enough good about them.  You did well to put them on the roster.

Thanks so much, we appreciate all of you and all you do to make our seasons memorable.
